Dr Kate Allen: Managing a mass casualty event: lessons learnt from humanitarian work

Kate is a part-time emergency medicine consultant in Sunderland and a pre-hospital emergency medicine consultant at the Great North Air Ambulance Service and a Medical Specialist for a Disaster Assistance Response Team with a humanitarian charity. This role has taken her around the world to a variety of emergencies – conflict, infectious diseases, outbreaks, hurricanes, earthquakes and refugee crises, to name a few! When not working she enjoys weekends away in her campervan (named Juniper), hiking, wild swimming and paddle boarding!
